Tasting Notes: Dark brown appearance with one finger of fluffy head. Decent lacing. Rich caramel scent with toffee, peat, dark fruit and molasses. Flavors are complex yet well-balanced, with caramel sweetness at the forefront and fruit and smoke in the background. Just the right amount of hops. Mouthfeel is heavy without feeling syrupy.

What's on the bottle...

AleSmith's award-winning Wee Heavy is a dark, smooth ale in the classic Scottish style (full-bodied, rich and malty). Sweet, slightly smoky flavors and a light dose of the freshest hops combine to make a tantalizing brew that just keeps getting better with age.

Over time, given proper storage conditions, many of the sweet and malty flavors will blend and mellow, leaving a trace of smokiness and a drier finish. Of course, it's deliciously drinkable right now and you won't want to wait to taste it, so buy some for now and some to be put aside for later. You'll be amazed at the way the flavors mature, and you'll wish you had more.

More from the brewer

A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops - just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional scotch style.

Deep mahogany color with nice tan head. Rich, toasty, malty aroma and flavor with a faint touch of smokiness. A tinge of hops provides the perfect balance to the maltiness. Full-bodied, smooth and warming. Storage: Improves with age: Store in a cool, dark place for 6 to 24 months or longer.

Awards: Multiple awards including Silver in its category at the Chicago Real Ale Festival, the World Beer Championships, and Brewers' Choice at the San Diego Strong Ales Festival (first beer ever to win both in the same year). Great American Beer Festival 2004 Bronze, Great American Beer Festival 2005 Silver.

Serving Tips: Do not refrigerate until ready to drink. Serve at 50-55 deg for best flavor. Pour gently into AleSmith Tulip glass leaving brewers yeast in bottle.

Warning: Beer of the month clubs and mass producers promise "craft" beer…deliver less-than-stellar drinking experience.

Sadly, it's true…
98% of breweries in America are now labeled as "craft beer" producers, a term that's quickly losing its meaning. But most are still hiding dull, lifeless beer behind clever names and fancy labels.
